ONTs can work in two different service-mode:
SFU – Single Family Unit
SFU – only bridge and fully controlled from the OLT (advanced VLAN operations – access/transparent etc)
That allows to prepare more complex configuration – such as QinQ tunnel or VLAN translation on the ONT -> Supported scenarious.
Mainly used by individual home users, which only supports broadband access terminal function, the device has 1 or 4 Ethernet interfaces, providing Ethernet/IP services, supporting VoIP service (built-in IAD) and CATV service. It mainly used in FTTH occasions ( also can be used with a home gateway to provide greater business capabilities).
HGU – Home Gateway Unit
HGU – bridge and router – basic configuration assign from OLT – service configuration on ONT (by WWW / provisioning method like xml, tr069) through IP-HOST interface for MGMT -> Supported scenarious.
This mainly used for individual home users, with home gateway function, equivalent to home gateway with GPON uplink interface, with 4 Ethernet interfaces, WLAN interfaces, providing Ethernet/IP services, which can support VoIP, IPTV/CATV service and TR-069 remote management. The device mainly used in FTTH solutions.
To check what is the current service-mode of ONT:
V5808(config-gpon-olt[1])# show onu service-mode 4
OLT | ONU | STATUS | Serial No. | Service Mode | Service Oper
1 | 4 | Active | HALN086044b0 | None | HGU
Attention: do not switch ONT service mode manually via command below
V5808(config-gpon-olt[1])# onu service-mode 4 ?
